My son and I killed two
« on: November 03, 2013, 04:26:44 pm »
[:D]
Daylight savings went away to day so we had to get up early, and leave at 4:00.
Across the river to Iliad, Flat creek lake. Of course We were  the only ones there at that time of day. We headed north in the dark along the boundary fence. One coulee, then another, and then another, and finally the last one. Still before shooting hours we started to spot. Yup a nice deer on the hill side, we maneuvered in to a good shooting position still kind of dark. A quick range and we are sitting at 189 yards waiting for shooting time. My boy and I talked over the shot, the wind straight sideways was pushing 40 mph. I waited for him to turn so the wind was going from his but to head and he was broad side. I have the 243 sighted in to 200 yards dead zero. So no adjustment there. But the wind, humm, I figured the bullet drift would be a lot. I aimed mid way almost center deer, and sent one . DEAD center shoulder the deer fell over in it's tracks and rolled down the hill dead . The wind was so bad the other does with him didn't hear or see anything, just there buck dropped dead. They wandered off and we went and looked at him. My son suspected more deer so he went over the ridge we where on ,yes more on the other side. I stayed on top to watch and he went off on a hunt. there was two bucks and several does. One was a TALL 3 and the other was a fat pig that had 4 on one side and 3 on the other, but not a bad deer. As I watched, he snuck to 239 yards of the better buck. He had his 6.5 Swede , he looked back to see if I was in a position to watch, I was. He let one go. As I'm watching the front leg flings out, then the other front leg flies out from under the deer. Then I herd the "Whack" then the report. Deer down, but he had his head still up... A shot or two went off but in the wind he could not connect with the head/ neck. He worked a little closer and a final shot and his head went down. There at 7:30 we where done.! He worked on his deer and I went back to the truck for the cart. We had two, by the way, the big one and one I wanted to try . I made a 4 wheel bread /deer cart and hoped it would work. With the two I head back . I ran in to my boy about a third of the way . He went back to the truck and dropped off his stuff and came back out. Each deer where in different drainages , I dropped off the big cart on a dike and I went up to get mine. Loaded him on strapped him on and back out. My boy picked up the other cart and went up and got his, we met back up at the dike and walked out together. 9:30 and they are in the truck. There a very nice father, son hunt, SO COOL! Not the biggest deer but a GREAT hunt, I'll keep this one filed in the head for a long time.

Don't ya  just love it when a plan comes together??? Congrats on a great hunt and thanks for sharing.
Why carry a .45acp? Because having to shoot twice is just silly.
