Conditions were not the greatest last night, but the night before I heard several coons fighting down by the creek at the lease. Some of the other guys and I got to talking about how they had never seen calling work. Despite the full moon and no wind or clouds, I thought I would give it a try since the animals seemed to be pretty active. Our first set was disappointing it was down by the creek where all of the activity was the night before, we then went to a small flat and called for about 20 minutes and saw nothing. I put the call away, we were talking about the conditions, I was felling pretty bad about dragging them out for another disappointing experience and decided to call it a day. I shined the light one last time and there he was, I was more than a little surprised, as we were not being quiet, and almost let him get away as I "forgot" to turn the safety off. Good thing no one has called the area in over 10 years he had no idea what we were and was just standing there about 20 yards away and waited patiently for me to get my act together and make the shot. That livened everyone up, and we tried a couple of more sets with no luck, the a small front blew in, and we called it a night. This new lease is going to be fun.
